Cleaning 1 week old unused canister filled with tank water and media

Hey bro/sis.

I just got a canister from a friend who left tank water and media in canister for a week before handing it over to me. The water in it smells bad. Any special way of cleaning it? What you bro/sis do? Please advise! Thank you.

Just wash it with clean tap water and scrub away any dirty areas, then let everything dry completely under the sun. After that you can use it.

If you are want to be extra-safe, you can use Clorox (original unscented version, dilute as recommended on the bottle) to clean the filter, just make sure after its cleaned, soak everything in de-chlorinated water (can put higher dosage of de-chlorinator to remove the residual chlorine), then dry it fully before use.

Thanks bro UA. Will try cleaning with tap for now.. Will try to avoid using chlorine for now.. But if i have to use, whats the dosage of clorox per litre?

I usually go with the recommended dosage on the Clorox Original bottle for sanitising and cleaning items, mix 250ml of clorox per 5 liters of water in a bucket, then just soak all the items to be sanitised in the bucket for a few minutes.
