    hi folks,

just setup my 6ft (about 214G).

    basic stats:
    2x 2028 proII
    3x150w mh (10 hrs)
    ph 6.6 kh4
    temp 27C
co2 - cylinder injection via external reactor
used mulm and old media to seed. planted pretty heavy from the start so i could add fishes after a week. would only start increasing bioload after another 2 weeks or so.

btw, the wild discus just bought today and is roughly 7inches

    some pics.

    just arrived

    lights

    adding fert and gravel

    filling with water

just planted (need big pebbles to keep the wood from floating)

    after 9 days

    Cheers,
    Melvin Lim

the 2028 on the left (facing tank) is connected to the chiller and external reactor. the 2028 on the right is connected to a surface skimmer.

the rainbars are place at the bottom back of the tank with the hole facing up towards the surface.

media using stock eheim media (no carbon) , biohome, thick wool & fine wool pads.

will try to post a pic

    2 Filters

Had asked the question as having 2 set of tubes running is not as nice as 1 set 2 filters.

Never been able to find the right formulae for such a setup.

    Nice setup.

Ascaping a 6ft is no easy task but I have a few comments to share if you don't mind...

I'm a bit hestitant about the row of bylxa japonica getting too big in front in time to come, perhaps opening more space in the centre will be better.

Is that Aponogeton ulvaceus in the centre? IMO it's too much in the centre.

Other than that I think the tank will look great when the plants grows in.

    some shots of the equipment.
    abit messy...

    inside cabinet

right filter is hooked up to a skimmer while the left filter is to the chiller and external reactor.
inlet and outlet at each end of the tank for each filter.
the rainbar of the left filter is stretched all the way to the right of the tank bottom for even co2 distribution.
the right rainbar is just the standard length towards the left.

Is it me or is your co2 reactor upside down?
If you've learnt, teach, if you have, give.

bought it 2nd hand. think it's customised to work that way.
there's a ceramic diffuser inside so that the co2 bubbles get broken up.

edit: confirmed with seller liao. you're right, i got it upside down.

    Hi Mordrake,

May i know how much you spend on the entire setup from light, tank, equipment, etc.

will it be very hot for the chiller since you are keeping it in the cabinet?

the chiller does not get really hot as there is vents on the front door.
the side door of the cabinet, chiller compartment side, is detachable to allow even more ventilation.
the back of the cabinet, chiller compartment side, has full netting too.

    update

    after 2 months...
the ap. ulvaceus abit off from the constant flowering.
going to add root monster and cut off the flowering stems. new leaves keep getting attacked by the algae crew...

hair algae under control. only problem now is the green slime algae and brown algae on the moss.

    with 3x150wmh on

only the centre mh on.(looks brighter cos i moved the 3 lights nearer to water surface)

    some discus

    the big bully - alenquer.

not sure why the discus tend to be darker than when they were in the BB tanks. is it due to the black background?

thanks Simon, they're looking better now. think with a bigger group, the 12 "smaller" discus (4-5inch) are not so afraid of the big alenquer now.
    Cheers,
