    Hi guys,
I don know what is it that's covering my live rocks and corals. it's red (similar thing to bluegreen algae found in some planted tank) but this is red in colour. used a stick to remove them and then again after 3 days, they're covering the rocks and corals again. what do i do to remove them permanently and prevent them from coming back?

just to check, if u use your hands to fan them, will they start to peel off? if so, they are cynobacteria.. a result due to high nitrate and your system is not able to break down the nitrate fast enough... also, your filtration is not sufficient.

did u let your tank and filtration to have sufficient time to mature? An understanding of the nitrogen cycle is crucial for the success of keeping marine tank.

I did see this in my 3ft tank before. Went away after I religiously change water every week, about 15%.

water change is impt. Try using FR to starve the nutrient as well. Lightings and flow plays the most impt part of getting rid of such unwanted algae.

Hi, maybe u can increase your tank flow (esp the lower parts of the tank - solve this by using powerheads at the bottom area of the tank, taking care not to disturb yr sandbed).
This helps dirt and detritus tat has settled and are feeding the algae, to be moved into your overflow and skimmed out

If u can, I suggest removing your bioballs and ceramic rings slowly in stages. U will be surprised how much crap is stuck in between these filter media. Its still best to remove any dirt thru skimming instead of letting it slowly break down IN THE WATER...

    Hope this helps
