I will just answer the question of storing live bloodworm.

WHether it is clean or not you decide for yourself. But i will not bother. They wont kill the fish. Out fish have parasites in them All the time. But they only show on weak fish.


Back to the point.

TO keep bloodworm alive for days, dont use any kind of water container.
Saturate a piece of newspaper with water, drain the bloodworm and place it inside. Wrap it up, wrap up with a few more layers of newspaper. Put in plastic bag, put in fridge, not freezer. THey will stay alive for a few days. Nice and fresh.

I had been doing this last time all along when there were no frozen bloodworm yet

i am not really worried parasites etc, and you dont have to too, if your fish are in good health. They will handle the parasites (if any) themselves.

If talking abt wild fish, parasites and host have delicate roles to play, and they balance each other out.

anyway , if you dont feel safe, there is this good product from ocean free, it is a powder for internal bacteria infection(to some extent) and parasites. It is to be mixed with food, and fish take it readily. I will recommend it if you are worried abt parasites. Just mix a pinch with your bloodworm when you are ready to feed, let it dry a little bit and throw in. THe fish will take it all in. It works fast.. i had a very bad case of tapeworms in a fish i bought some time ago. THe fish was weak. I cured it in 3 days and a few more days of follow ups. IT works much much better than many liquid medication.

how abt using the same trick for tubifex then?

to be honest i dont really like to use tubifex ...perhaps they look "meatless" to me. i only use them occasionally...and nowadyas it is like i buy some just for 1 feeding when i walk past fish shop. Irregular.

you must be careful when using life tubifex. Unlike bloodworm, they can survive, and flourish underwater for extended period. uneaten ones will clump up and form colonies....often Beneath the gravel surface. And to add to that, they release a toxin(sorry forgot what toxin) over time...

But washing is the same, but tubifex cannot put in fridge.
Use shallow container, find the coolest spot in the house possible... fill water until 1/3 up the height of the lump of the worm. Need to change water several times a day. Adding ice cube occasionally actually helps too.


i think the forzen food offered nowadays is not only convenent, but fresh too. I dont know abt the claims of them being cleaner....for i think it is largely psychological coupled with marketting.
