I am planning to kick start a hobby in red cherry shrimps and wishes to keep them in a planted tank. I have tried doing a search in this forum on suitable plants for red cherry shrimps but there doesn't seem to be much information on it.

Aside from java moss, what kind of plants should I also include in the tank? I am an absolute newbie in this and prefer plants which are easy to take care of. I currently own a marimo and will be putting it into the planted tank too.

You can just include lots of driftwood tied with moss and a few moss ball. Easy maintainance. Or some anubias nana.

    Welcome to shrimp keeping.

Easy to take care of are mainly : Anubias Nana and java ferns, when you feel you want to have more challenge. You can try out Bacopa Caroliniana and Cabomba Caroliniana
Recent studies shows that putting recent studies in your statement have a higher percentage of trust people put into your recent studies. What?

You can check out the list of plants on the Tropica website with the "easy" label, they provide photos and descriptions of plants that are mostly the low-demand types that don't necessarily require high light, extra Co2 or lots of fertilizers to sustain and grow (though they will still welcome those things to boost growth speed):

    http://tropica.com/en/plants/?tabIndex=1&alias=Easy

I've found their plant list descriptions and requirement details quite reliable so far... though i've also managed to grow some of their plants listed under "medium" label (ie, Echinodorus Tenellus, Marsilea Hirsuta, Micranthemum 'Monte Carlo' and the various mosses) and even the "advanced" label plants (ie. Hemianthus Micranthemoides and Rotala Wallichii) in low-tech shrimp setups too.

Any plants are fine with the cherry shrimp. Focus more on what you can keep alive easily. If you are starting a planted tank with substrate, and have reasonable light eg t5, you can keep many types. Moss, fern, anubias don't really need substrate, stemmed plants do better with it. Your moss and marimo will be good, and you can also try cabomba, vallisneria, dwarf swords.

if you are a lazy person who doesnt like to prune the plants often or even at all, stick with ferns, stay away from moss.

Have you considered the Echinodorus species like rataj, ibore or Iguazu. Leaves are really nice and thick and they are really very slow growing. Some are a bit pricey though.
