Shouldn't be any issues with those quantity of livestock in your tank... it'll be considered "lightly stocked".

You can still add in more amano shrimps to help with algae management too.

Because one of my concerns is having too many amano shrimp, kind if afraid they may not get enough food to eat

For a lightly stocked 50G planted tank, you could easily have 20-30 amano shrimps and the overall load would still be considered light... if you have a good density of plants and feed your fishes regularly, the shrimps wouldn't need to be specifically fed much as they will graze on algae and eat up the leftover fish food (which are usually their main jobs as clean-up crew anyways).

If your planted tank has lower pH and soft water conditions, then smaller fishes like tetras or pencil fishes would be suitable, they are commonly kept with rams as dither fishes, helps make the rams less shy.

    Very nice advice, thanks

So far I have added 13 amano shrimps and 2 bamboo shrimps .Love seeing the amano shrimps scavenge for leftover food at the bottom ! they look so cute !

Wondering if you know of any particularly interesting fishes you would recommend

Also forgive me if im wrong, but I have read in some articles that rams are rather slow eaters , mixing them with faster fishes may risk them not being able to compete for food or whatsoever . So in this case, do you think the tetras would compete for food with the rams, leaving them starving

I am thinking of buying an automatic fish food feeder too , do you think thats a good idea?

Well, from my experience keeping rams for a period of time, the ones i had preferred to be mid-bottom feeders, they rarely swam to the top to grab food like the smaller fishes... so what i did during feeding time was just sprinkle floating micro pellets for the smaller faster fishes, then dropped in the larger sinking pellets for the rams. That arrangement seemed to work well.

This is also one of the good reasons to have shrimps as there will usually be some extra food littering the substrate with this sort of feeding method, so the shrimps help to do clean-up.

Automatic fish feeders can be useful, they allow you to schedule several small feeding throughout the day (rather than just one large feeding a day)... though you do need to position it so that when it drops the fish food the filter flow doesn't disperse the food all over the tank and create a mess, or get food sucked into the filter.

I saw some red and blue gouramis kept in the same tank in the LFS I went today, just wondering if it is ok if I add like 2 red and 2 blue gouramis in addition to my tank?

Not sure which exact gourami species you saw, but if its the dwarf variety, they'll only grow to 5-6cm length, so will be okay for your tank size.

The LFS I went to only wrote "Blue Gourami" and "Red Gourami" , they didnt really specify whether it is the dwarf variety or not. Kind to think of it ,I went to many LFS and I doubt any of them classified the gourami as dwarf or not T.T .

By any chance is there a way to distinguish them ?

Yeah, most LFS don't label their fishes properly so it's tough to ID them.

The best method is to just google the fish species and see which photos of them match the ones you saw.

Alternatively, you could take a photo of the fishes at the LFS and post a "please ID this fish" thread on the forums.
