Any secret in growing HC?

I have many attempt to grow HC. I have never succeed. The plant grow too slow and soon cover by algea. OR the leaf turn brownish green in my colder tank. I really admire member that have a carpet of HC.

also, how much needed to fill up the foreground of a 6ft?

I saw the LFS next to Nature Aquarium grows HC emersed in a pot of soil on Sunday.

I am trying to grow some on gravel emersed in a plastic container. Just put water up to the bottom leave level. The container is left near a window.

Planning to let them anchor to the gravel before putting the whole 'carpet' into the tank. Then, let it spread.

Hopefully it will be successful.
