Aquascaping is subjective to individual, you may receive varying or even contraditing comments.

I would say give a little time for the B. Japonica to fill up the ground before you do any changes. They are nice plants under the right conditions (good CO2 and high light). Let them cover at least half the total ground, they will create illusion of depth.
