Hi everyone, sorry for this newbie question. I've got hairgrass on rocks and the white roots have grown longer until they now look unkept. Can they be trimmed? I suppose not because they are not going to be able to get nutrients if I trim them away right? Thanks in advance!

You can just leave it as it is. The roots will creep downwards.

Yeah, when you have plants tied to rocks above the substrate, they will usually grow water column roots to uptake nutrients directly from the surrounding water.

You could trim the roots to make it look neater. Although there is a chance trimming the roots may slow down the plant's nutrient uptake and growth, they will grow back out again anyways.
