    Hi all,
May i know which LFS is selling badis badis (chamelon fish) or holland ram?
Hope to get some by today as a tonnes or snails are in my 4ft tank.
Had tried b4 puffer or dwarf puffer.....is working fine for puffer, but after the snails were finished, they started to nib the fin of my angel. As for the dward puffer, not very efficient leh, and dunno why it die after a few week.
Thinking of trying clown loaches, but afraid it will root up my plants. Btw anyone know whether badis badis or holland ram is efficient in clearing snails, and do they bite the yamato or other fishes after the snails finish?
    Please advise. Thanks

    Regards,

hmm..do both the normal puffer and the dwarf puffer eat snails?
if the dwarf one doesn't, then it might have starved to death?

    does anyone have any answers?

    Horseface Loach - Acantopsis choirorhynchos

just one will do. introduce after your plants are properly rooted as it will hide under the gravel when alarmed, although it doesn't excavate as much as the other loaches.

yes easily 4 inches long, but very un-instrusive. you'd have to rip up your tank to find it, not to mention catch it. you just need ONE, ok

    Snail-eaters - which is best?

    Hi guys,

have been following the conversation, also have snails (limpets?). Anyway, we have possibly:

    Holland ram
    Apisto
    Clown loach
    Horseface loach
    Dwarf puffer

as likely candidates. Which is the best? Any others? I'm going to introduce lampeye tetra and Altum angels end of this week, would like a snail-eater that would live with them!

Add a couple of dwarf puffers to the snail eating team lah.
Others like badis, yoyo loach, aspitos & rams not very sure they will snack on the snails.

so everyone is suggesting to have the dwarf puffer to control the snail population instead of getting badis, holland ram, loach, etc

  14. #14
which is quite weird, since i always thought the dwarf puffer will nip fins.

  15. #15
yup, u r right...although i dun have much experience with dwarf puffers as i had bought 2 but died within a week. However i have a normal puffer b4 for a month or 2 ...but died 2 after no more snails in the tank......this puffer will keep on nipping my angel fin......hence i separate it away...and when oni there is snail..then i put it in

  16. #16
hmm..then maybe comparing between the dwarf and the normal puffer, maybe the dwarf would be a better choice, as it'll cause less damage?

  17. #17
i think should be the dwarf causing less damage...cos my normaly puffer will keep on nipping the angel fin if no more snail for them

Re: Snail Eater (Badis badis or Holland Ram)

Hi sorry to dig this old thread up...dun hv the privilege to create new thread yet.

Yesterday, I just got 10 badis badis for my 2 feet tank. I do not feed live food and use only commercial food pellets for my black neon. I also have a lot of cherry shrimps, easily > 100 as they keep reproducing, and a thriving population of ramshorn snails.

    Now, my question is:

Can the badis badis just survive in this tank without any live food like tubiflex? I have observed them trying to eat some things which I can't even see. I hope they can survive by eating the baby snails or even baby cherry shrimps.

Anyone has experience with this fish without introducing live food?
