Outdoor pond [56K !]

It was supposed to be a full koi pond, but later half of it was converted for vegie filter & emersed planting

It's a very beautiful pond.

I noticed that you have a goldfish in the pond. So far, did the goldfish pose any problem to the plants like uprooting it?

Is it difficult to maintain a planted tank of this size?

@cherietung, thanks.. There is a mesh fence seperating the goldfish and the main plants. The lily plant where the goldfish are, is firmly rooted in a submerged bucket. Maintanence such as pruning is quite a chore so I sort of let it go after a while. Soon, fast growing stem plant such Hygrophilia difformis take over the surface.

@BFG, mozzies got no chance to even dip its feet . There are hundreds of livebearers and many others like barbs, rainbows, etc.

that's such a lovely pond! Good place to keep all other plants that the tank cant put anymore. my styrofoam boxes of emerse plants is irritating my mum no end!

anyway, well done on the pond. By the way, the pond floor is covered with gravel? mud? or bare concrete and plants are grown in containers?

ummm yeah.. this is quite a dumpster & start looking like one too...
I've been thinking to make this a real aquatic garden. I mean to really do better layout instead of such a jungle.
Currently I potted the plants using polyutherane bag for land plant, filled with gravel. The floor is concrete with muddy layer of mulm. I'm going to put gravel/sand substrate over the floor so I can do the gardening layout.

Bukan. Mozzies itu nama timangan untuk nyamuk. Nama mozzies itu mulanya di ucapkan dari orang Australia kalau tak salah saya. Mozzies itu adalah mosquito atau dikenali sebagai nyamuk.

Moss adalah sejenis pokok yang tumbuh dalam air . Moss dan mozzies tak sama.

do you face algae problem? I notice you have reds (Macandra i suppose) how do you do the fertilising regime if any? My reds in the tank by the window are greening but the iron fertilisers cos algae bloom.

I don't fertilize, can't afford it with this pond size . I only rely on fish mulm & excess food to provide nutrient for the plants.
And I do have spot algae problem, mostly on Hygrophila difformis. Is that a "P" problem ? Also, there are somekind of Cladophora on driftwoods.
Interestingly, before I introduce plants, the cement pond wall & floor used to be heavily carpeted with BBA, quite beautiful actually But, it all went away losing to the koi, pleco, and the growing plants.
As for red plant.. hmm.. I'm using terracotta brick wall for divider between koi area & the plant area. It might leach enough iron for the red plants

There is inline mechanical & biological filter system with water capacity about 1/3 of the pond volume(5000Ltr), running 24/7 with 12000Ltr/hr pump. Initially there were green water for the first 2 months, but once the biological filter got mature it went away & never come back. I used bacteria enzyme additive to speedup the process.
I wish I can show the filter here, but I just realize xpphotoalbum.com just closed down gosh....
