I'm cycling the tank now with plants and old filter, is it a must to add gravels and soils in the tank ?

If your plants are the rooted types, then you'll need to use a substrate to plant them in (best if can use good quality aquasoil with nutrient content).

Otherwise, if your plants are all the non-rooted types (all tied to wood, rocks or mesh), then not necessary to have any substrate.

That is almost regular price. Unless you are prepared to tie plants onto artifacts on your own, you may be able to bring the price down a little.

If you are shopping at LFS like C328, check the plastic packets and cartons of plants on the floor and the tray in front of the shop, the plants there are usually already tied to larger pieces of wood, rocks and steel mesh. Some of them contain the same plants but offer substantially more plant mass than the ones in the cups (and the difference in price is not as much).

make sure you clean them before use. I experience unwanted snails before.
