    Hi guys,

I am preparing my next tank for the little great pair, though I have not decided which species to be kept.

Here is my tank setup after several changes... Feel free to comment +/-.

Tank Size: 45x29x30, intend to go for a low-tech, low maintenance, moderate light setup.

Is there any coconut trees grow around your estate?
If yes, you can pick up those brown coconut that drop.
Just remove the husk, cut a hole at one end and clean the internal.
    I use to do that.

If you really want a coconut shell, you can try those aquariums in Serangoon Pet Street. They have prepared shells that are safe for aquarium and does not leech.
Diy from fresh can be dangerous if you didn't clean it out well, I once had a very huge spike in nitrite as the coconut rot in just one night. Luckily no casualties during that time.
Great scape by the way. Love it.

    Re: A scape for Apisto...

I have added peat to the filtration and gave the tank a darker look. Photo taken with light on. I suppose it should be better for the coming little beauties.

Btw, the coconut shell seems fine, didnt see any sign of rotting?

But coconut shell will rot if it has not been dried enough in the sun..

You also think the coconut shell would rot? Perhaps I should get one more and tanned it while this is in water.

    Re: A scape for Apisto...

If i'm not wrong, white coconut are just young coconuts that have not turned brown yet (their water is sweeter so more popular).

To DIY coconut shells, just have to scrape out all the meat, then boil and dry it well. Its mainly to reduce the amount of excess soft organic matter that will continue rotting while in the tank (which contribute to ammonia levels). If its cleaned and prepared properly then no issue there.

    Re: A scape for Apisto...

    Hi rc311,

I am also new to apisto and I feel another option to the coconut shell, maybe those fish cave.
Personally I think those by Borneowild looks good, as they comes in slightly different shapes & pattern.
Looks more natural. If covered with moss, it should look even better.

Do take note it may have a smaller hole and bigger type of adult male apisto may have problem entering it.
