I just like to find out how many of you really live by that rule of thumb? I have a 17g tank and I am wondering how many rasboras or tetras I can stock.

It will have to depend on your tank's bio-filtration. If your tank is heavily planted with a bigger canister filter, you can stock more fishes... I don't really follow that inch/gallon rule, but I will always stock my cardinals in batches of 10 per week and monitor my ammonia level, if no spike I'll add more

2ft, 10 cardinals, 5 mosquito boraras, 4 oto, 5 Sakura and 5 Yamato shrimps... My filter is eheim 2213 full of seachem matrix and additional gex large hof also full of matrix... The intake of 2213 has a prefilter with course sponge to filter the debris... Planning to add more shrimps to clear the algae on my hairgrass
