i've never tried Dr Mallick's fertilizer, no comment on this. But the PMDD can be easily mixed if you get the right amount of chemical together. Read up some good PMDD threads here and there are plenty of articles out there.

If you are talking about cost, effectiveness and easy of use, PMDD is obviously not for beginner. You need to understand the requirement of your aquarium and dose the appropriate stuff.

Try off-the-shelve fertilizers which gives you everything(most) all in 1. A Profito 2L can easily last you 1yr if you use it with care.

    Hi guys,

if we use jason's type of fertilizer, is there still a need to use base fertilizer like JBL?

out of impulse, i bought the lushgro package consisting of Aqua, Micro and its PMDD. however due to my ineptitude, i dont believe i'll be using the PMDD for some time--- i use diy co2 and use no test kits so dosing with PMDD would be hazardous i guess.

Dolby, i reckon that we still need to use base fert as not all plants absorb nutrients from the water column i.e some are root feeders.

    cheers

Hazardous? Unless you go overboard with the dosing...it should never be a problem. You might want to read up on the estimative index method by Tom Barr to do the no test kit approach of dosing.

No, you don't need base fert in order to grow plants if your water column provides everything. Plants can take all the nutrients from the water column if it is rich enough and would only go for the substrate if you limit it.
