Hello guys, i've been cycling my 12 Gallon tank for about 2 weeks or more now. Today I noticed 2 small areas at the substrate having a white semi clear film. Please refer to attached photo to see the white thingy. Is it normal to have such things in a new cycling tank? Tank only has some plants as you can see in the photos.

Last week, the water parameters are as follows: PH-6.5, Ammonia-0.25ppm, Nitrite-1.5ppm, Nitrate-20ppm.

I have been adding CO2 tablets daily for the plants. AZOO Supreme Bioguard was also added for the first 3 days. AZOO Plant Premium was added on the first day. The substrate is AZOO Plant Grower Bed. Filter is an external AZOO canister filter (Yes ive been using all the AZOO range of products haha)

Can any kind sould advice on whats going on.. What is that white thing on the substrate and rock..

Thats just some mold or fungus that happen to grow around areas where nutrients/bacteria accumulate... you'll usually also see it grow on leftover rotting food or dead fishes in the tank too.

Its does tend to be more common in new tanks that are still cycling (especially when active soil substrates are used) as the nutrient levels are high and there is alot of excess organic material for them to feed on.

You can manually remove it with a pair of tweezers, or just let it consume whatever its feeding on and then it'll gradually disappear on its own.

Hey UA, thanks for replying! Such a relief to know it's nothing dangerous. I'll do a 10% WC and remove them while doing so.

Hi shadez, I got mine at a fish shop along upper Thomson road near the famous prata shop. I also saw it at Yishun 618.
