I have read from the posts in this section that PL is hotter than FL tubes.

I am currently using FL tubes (the normal 15W & 20W) for my tanks.
I don't like the sound of the fan buzzing away in my bedroom for the highlight tank.

If my plants are bubbling away, does that mean that I have enough light and thus a PL light is not neccessary?

If your plants are growing well it fine.......but I do noticed that your glosso are growing upwards......since you are considering ripping them out, perhaps change them to something that is lower light tolerant.

    Is that considered growing upwards?
    Oh...
I thought I have it right cos I have runners throughout the whole foreground. I didn't trim it at that time.
I'll probably try another foreground plant or some moss for my shrimps.

BTW, are my Heteranthera diversifolia doing OK?
Enough light for them from the look of it from the pic?

both pl and fl light tubes generate heat.
so without fans, the light hood will heat up as well.
however, the e-ballast used for pl tubes runs much cooler.
and pl tubes are more compact.

Are you saying that PL tubes with e-ballast and FL tubes are the same in terms of 'heat' generated?

I don't have a fan to cool down the tank so I guess the heat generated is a main concern here.

i can't say, specifically, that both pl and fl tubes generate the same amount of heat. ime, the light hood will heat up.
you can minimise the heat build up by improving air circulation in the light hood. by a fan or holes to allow heated air to escape.
