Hi fellows hermit expert. Recently i just bought 4 hermits and now i have this problem of what to feed to them. I have been feeding fruit such as apple, honey dews and pemelo. My hermits dont eat full and go type they would just nibble and go and come back to nibble again. So i wasnt able to know when are they full and i left fruits in the tank over night unitl i notice an increase of fruit flies around my tank which is annoying. This files i used to see them whenever my parent buys banana and hang to ripe. And i dont like to feed with pellets as the smell is very strong. Anyone have any suggestions what else i can feed?

    hey, very cute.

keeping 4 of them, won't they fight.
with regards to keeping them, what do they need?

won't they clamp / 'bite' you when you place them on your palm?

Nice, imo you should place them in those acrylic tank..

Set up a crabitat, from far, you could see them clearly.

I also did a search, they don't pitch unnecessary unless they are provoked or hungry.
Apart from that, you need to put a few spare shells, should they outgrow.

My first encounter with hermit crabs were During my trip to Maldives, plentiful.. all over the place..

Always like them ever since but I don't think I could have a hermit tank in my home.. due to space constraints

They might be moulting, dont worry it will take a few months and if they are not disturbed it will go fine.

Oh, so you mean they are hiding under the husk at the surface and did not dig deep into the sand? Maybe they've been coming out at night to eat?

Hermit crabs will be seen sluggish and slow movements and they tend to stay longest at the food dish and eat alot when they are about to molt.

It is normal as i have 6 crabs and for times-2 months. I only see 2 at the surface. Just remember to moist the sand daily anf let them carry out their molt themselves. Never to dig them out until you smell rotten smell.

After they molt. Within 24hours they will come back up. If you setae on them. It means they have just molted. Even if they are not molting. Digging into the sand can be playtime to them. Under any conditions other than death, i will not dig them out.
