Same situation for me, they are quite territorial against their own kind.
My $0.00X worth
Hi Guys,
Are SAEs territorial? I have a 2x1x1.5 feet planted tank. I started with 3 SAes (about 2 cm length). They grew over a few months to about 4-5cm. Basically tripled in size. One 'disapperared' one night and today I found the second one on the floor. Only the largest one left. I have noticed the largest one chasing the others around recently. Was I keeping too many SAEs in my tank. My other fish are 8 neon tetras, 2 black tetras, a dwarf puffer. The SAEs don't bother the other fish.
Thanks
Azmi

Understand that friends come and go,
but with a precious few you can hold on.

yes, in small spaces/tanks..they do(2ft). normally keep 1 only. However when in big tanks, they school together...I got 3 in my 4ft tank. They swim/hover side by side...
i have 2 in my 2 feet planted...they seem to be like brothers leh...swim with each other sticky like anything...and they hog the food....aiyah...lol.
thanks guys
Azmi
