Think they are just hiding. I had same with my 1 ft tank recently. Couldn't find it even after trying to move some driftwood n plants. I thought it's dead but then saw it the next day alive.

It could also be the increased oxygen levels from the additional surface agitation which encourage the otocinclus to become more active... the activity level of most fishes tend to correlate with oxygen levels in tanks.
