Having more plants at the start helps to establish the carpet faster though, so try to plant as densely as possible.

When you have carpet plants, the shrimps will naturally hide in them if they can, especially after molting as they prefer a safe place to strengthen their new shells. I guess it helps to reduce their stress levels when a tank has high plant density for them to hide and forage in.
    actually not very true..

i did a lot of reading this time,
for glosso, you need to have high intensity light for them to spread otherwise they will only be growing vertically.
for mc, as my former tank don't have co2, only excel.. they actually melt..

i probably get moss.. wanna try mini fissiden.. but unsure

Check out these 2 examples by local forum members who succeeded with using low-moderate light to grow glosso in a low-tech tank environment:

    By chansl: http://www.aquaticquotient.com/forum...t-Planted-Tank

    By Shadow: http://www.aquaticquotient.com/forum...-low-tech-tank

Both aquascapes have no Co2 injection and utilize relatively low-moderate lighting, yet they are able to grow a compact glosso carpet. Maybe their tank setups can inspire you with more confidence to try out glosso as a carpet plant.

Moss are definitely easier to grow compared than rooted carpet plants... most shrimp keepers use them due to their lower requirements (very common in shrimp tanks), so they would be suitable for your setup if you prefer a slower growing lower maintenance carpet.

Mini fissidens are a very good choice, slow growing and tends to cost more than other moss, but looks really nice.

Note that moss take up less nutrients then other plants, so they are not as efficient at the job of soaking up excess nutrients... but you can consider adding fast growing stem plants in the background or use floating plants to do that job instead.
