Hi everyone, I am new to the hobby and the forum. Here to share some pictures of my first planted tank set up a few weeks ago. Its my first try at aquascaping. The main theme is a "farm stay" sort of feel.

    Specs:

    Filtration: Aquanic AQ 700
    Substrate: ANS Planta soil
    CO2: 5 bps
Chiller/temp: Cheapo chiller 25 degrees celsius
Lighting: 25 W on for 2 blocks of 4 hrs

    Plants:
    HC Cuba
    Monte Carlos
Frogbits (To soak up excess nutrients)
Mixture of Java, Flame and Spiky moss (Moss tree)
Downoi (Bought from a nice bro in this forum)

    Fauna:
Red, Black and Golden Bee Shrimps
Low quality Taiwan Blue King Kong
    Nerite snails

    Day 1:

You meant those spread on the ground? I believe those are HC Cuba. If you meant those behind the house, they are Ambulia. I might be incorrect though.

Great achievement considering this is your first aquascaping. Wait till the hc cuba crawls and spreads, that will be a beautiful sight

Thanks guys! I'm still learning. Credit goes to the forum for all the inspirations and helpful tips on plant care. Hopefully the HC Cuba can spread well. Will update as time goes by.

Oh please remember to cut your HC often if it grows thick. If not, the below will rot (can't reach the light) and your whole carpet of HC will float up.

Mine does... every night after work, I will have to spend time on it, planting again.
I tried to sink it real deep but worried that they don't get much light for growth..

I wanted to make it feel like a farm with the house, and the sheeps. Can't really do something like this in real life (in Singapore) so the fish tank is like an alternate world to me.

I have heard horror stories on this! My plan is to trim it fortnightly.

My Monte is very secured. What I did was to weigh it down with a few pieces of lava rocks when I first planted it. I have it on for almost 3 weeks. I will shift the rocks to a different portion of the large patch of Monte every 2-3 days so that the covered area can get lights as well.

HC was floating everyday as well initially for the first week. I then made up my mind and plant it really deep. Have been secured since.

I have also added ADA Brighty Green Step 1 On their recommended dosage so that the roots can develope better. Think it proved effective.

There is actually a category of aquascaping style for this... supposedly its called "Taiwanese style":

    http://www.aquascapingworld.com/thre...quascapes.282/

They use tiny houses and figurines to create a diorama which resembles those old chinese mountain village paintings.

Didnt know about Taiwanese style aquascaping. But UA bro is spot on. I wanted to create a livable space in the tank. Thanks for the link. New inspirations if I want to start another project.

    Re: First try at aquascaping

A little update on the tank. Its week 6 so I thought I should post some pictures. I made a mistake of adding Eiho Plant Carbo when I am also injecting CO2. I think the tank was over supplied with CO2. As a result it wiped out all of my Crystal reds and blacks. My Golden bee was also almost wiped out. My wife took pity on me and bought me some Crystal reds to restock.

    uploadfromtaptalk1411993540147.jpg

I have since stop dousing Plant Carbo. Instead, I used Seachem Flourish Comprehensive (starting from week 4).

The plants turn out well. Once in a while, I still pick up dead shrimps but most of them are doing well now.

Sorry to hear that your shrimp are affected by the eiho carbon. On the other hand, i must say your plant grows impressively well. You have a caring spouse who consoles you by buying shrimp to top up.

Ya man, real sad about the shrimps. The downoi you sold me are doing well by the way. The bottom leaves are melting but new leaves are forming on top. They are very well rooted as well.
