Put the small tank inside the big tank?
Jokes aside, maybe you can give more description of the current tank?

Transfer livestocks or whole scape?
Transfer everything in small tank to bigger tank
Basically I want to know how to deal with water and filter since the new tank is 3x bigger
do I buy new bigger filter and throw the existing one?
do I pour all water from exiting tank and top up with new water into the bigger tank then put in the fishes?
Keep as much water as you can from your old tank. Aged water is best and contains some of the BB.
Get a better filter. In this case, a more powerful filter.
Get better lights
Keep your filter media and top it up for the new filter so you do not have to start all over again for cycling.
Add the fish into new tank after about 30 mins setting up the new tank (after putting in anti chlorine/chloramine)
But seriously, it's better you tell everyone your set up for better assessment and help
1. Filter type
2. New tank dimensions
3. Fauna
4. Substrate type
5. Filter media
6. Lights and plants chosen
7. CO2 or none?
Holy is the Lord, God Almighty ! The Earth is filled with His Glory !
90 x 50 x 50 cm tank: Eheim 2217; ANS CO2 Solenoid with 60mm intense bazooka; Zetlight 6400; Teco 500 Chiller; Borneo Wild Steel inlet/outlet
Ferts: Dry Mixture/Dr Mallicks. Temp: 26 degrees Substrate: ADA Amazonia
Mine very simple setup
1. Filter type - sponge
2. New tank dimensions - 70x20x30
3. Fauna - moss
4. Substrate type - none
5. Filter media - sponge
6. Lights and plants chosen - 11w
7. CO2 or none? - none
Since the setup is so simple, you can just do a direct transfer. Just try to use back as much old water from the your current tank to minimise disrupting the filter
Do I buy a bigger spong filter and also use the existing one?
Bigger sponge filters would be good, since the new tank is larger... just run the existing sponge filter in the new tank concurrently with the new larger sponge filter, more filtration is always better.
With the larger tank, you can also consider other types of filtration like hang-on back filters or canister filters too.
