dear all experts,
i just up my nano tank for a week in my office. it is around 18cm x 18cm x 18cm. Using a 11W PL-S tube. (which is energy saving type 11W=75W)
tank with riccia and hairgrass. Using DIY CO2 with a hand-on filter.
Photoperiod is from 10am-5:30pm. Temp 24C. There are some tetra inside.
after a week...hair algae growing in between or riccia. why? coz of this is new tank n bacteria not yet form? or photoperiod too long?
Please advise. how to get rid of it. thx.

Either you don't pump enough CO2 from the diy CO2 with the current 11w(75w) or the thread/hair algae came with the riccia.Originally Posted by dom
11w on a 18cm depth is quite strong. Stop the hands-on filter it could have drive away the dissolved CO2.
I would dump away the whole setting and redo it again and this time round cycle the tank.

Not good...roasting your tank with so much light with DIY CO2 is asking for trouble. Not sure if you can get lamps with 2-3w but that is the max you should go with DIY CO2 setups. Get the light issue fixed first, kill off the algae by trimming, work on the CO2 brew and make sure you keep it in the 20-30ppm range throughout the photoperiod for the entire week in week out, finally work on the nutrients (NO3, PO4, GH, traces, K).
