Oh my! That's a big bush! You have helped me decide which plant is next on the list for my outdoor farm![]()
Staurogyne Repens is great for emersed planting... with ample nutrients and sunlight, they can easily grow into large dense bushes of lush green leaves. Its basically a fast growing stem plant.
I'm currently growing mine outdoors emersed on floating foam platforms with only the trailing roots in the water, sort of like an alternative floating plant, they soak up lots of nutrients and grow super fast that way too. Will be posting up a journal thread on that method soon.
Btw, check out these photos from plant farms that grow and harvest large quantities of Staurogyne Repens. Its pretty awesome.

Remember to open the cling wrap periodically to let fresh air in. I get mould if I just leave the cling wrap on.
Every time I thought the plants are stable enough to survive without the cling wrap. They tend to stop growing and even have yellowish leaves. Once I wrap again, the growth continues. Perhaps the 5 hours of sunlight is too strong or I need to dampen the soil further?

Does the planter box have drainage holes at the bottom? Or is it sealed? That can affect how long the soil stays damp enough to support the plant growth.
If your outdoor area is windy and the soil tends to dry out quickly, then you may need to mist the soil more frequently to keep it sufficiently damp. Otherwise, cling wrap (and regular opening of the wrap to allow air exchange) would be the next best solution.
Yes the planter box is sealed. I'm thinking to shift the whole box to a shaded area. No direct sunlight. Wonder if it's a good idea? Trying not to cling wrap too much cos every time I want to look at the growth I have to see through the cling wrap. Not so nice to admire

It's worth a try... since you already have a good setup going, maybe stick to it and just transfer a few spare patches of HC to another small container and put at areas with less direct sunlight to test, compare if there are any noticeable changes to the plant condition and growth rate.
I've always noticed local plant farms using lots of dark shade cloths draped above their plant grow-out ponds and rafts, i guess the intensity of our local sunlight can sometimes be too much for many types of plants.
Is it those that are used to make juice at health drinks stalls? Maybe can try the supermarkets, i've seen some places selling bags of the seeds.
Found an interesting local article on it: http://prunenurture.com/2013/04/firs...grass-at-home/
If i remember correctly, i've seen it at Marketplace supermarket... i guess you have to check at the more "atas" supermarkets.
You can also order them from online shops too: http://www.ecocityhydroponics.com/kn...eds-f-005.html

Hi Matashi, I would like to know if your planter box is placed under direct sunlight and cover with wrap. Wouldn't it overheat and kill the plant?
The planters take direct sunlight for about 3-4 hours a day and is wrapped all the time. As long there is moisture/water retained in the pot, there will be very low risk of overheating. You can opt to remove the wrapping to "air" but you probably have to refill water 5-6 times a day. Currently I don't have to refill anything for weeks. Just sit back and relax
