some people say that snail may have algae on the shell.. so they can transport algae around the tank..is it true?
correct me if im wrong
i hv used zebra snails as a natural countermeasure against minor algae growth on the glass.
But they keep falling the tank when they crawl to the edge.
Is there any thing to put around the edge to prevent falling off or any other method.
for my smaller covered tank, this snail is marvelous cleaners for the glass. For me, combining this with yamato shrimps and the tank is algae free. Hv got rid of my oto as they are not effective in cleaning glass as zebra and not as rugged.

Grow plants well...take the light off the front glass or have less light and algae issues will not bug you. Trying to solve snail climbing issue over algae is not my cup of tea.![]()

well, it is certainly better than using a scrapper to scrub the glasslike most of the people here suggested.
i always believe in solving problem with a biological means to maintain natural equilibrium. Of course, growing the plant well is one. But sometimes it would be good to introduce some self-cleaning mechanism to balance the controlled ecosystem.
My covered tanks are doing fine, the plants grow well and i use the zebra snails to polish the glass for me![]()

Some zebra snails behave and never run out of the tank well at least one that I know. I have so far lost 4-5 zebra snails due to this weird behaviour but I got one that behave so well and live long enough for me to tell this story.
I faced a similar situation and I used a netting over my 1.5ft tank. It's up to you if you want to spend a little money on some money on this enhancement. For me, it was worth it as I had some other jumpers (killie fish).
As to where to purchase such netting, you can get it from a hardware/DIY shop. Even if you no longer have any use of it as a cover, you can use such netting to tie riccia ha : )
thanks, for the tips.

where can i get zebra snails?
Alternatively, can try horn snail which work as well as zebra snail but due to its smaller size, not as effective unless you have 2 horn snails to replace 1 zebra snail.
Horn snail doesn't comes out as often.

i wonder about that too...
cos i once notice one of them climb out of water at the edge close to the water level, but lucky i have allowance of 100mm from water level to top edge of the tank furhter to that i have another bulk head of another 100mm to conceal the water level.
i told and dump it back to the water. i have 4 of it in my 5ft.
sometime all disappear and reappear again.quite cute to see them nibbing the aglae on the tank with their 2 teeth.
