BGA usually occur when there are nutrient imbalance in N,P and Fe
and also lack of c02.
Need help to confirmation if this is BGA or beginning of hair algae and how to fight it. This started a day after I flooded the tank after a month of dsm the mini peilia and the small portion of HC. The tank is just 7 days old, only dosing ada brightly K as per recommended dosage of 1 push per 20l of water. Read online that brightly k is all that's needed during the first 3 weeks of cycling. Am using ads powder soil for this 60p.
Any advise to fight this is greatly appreciated lol.

I see, should I dose seachem N and P since the start just started cycling and likely have little N? Or is the Ada substrate should be able to provide sufficient for now?
Drop op checker is constantly light yellow/green and the affected has relatively high flow, could that be the problem?
Sorry i meant BBA not BGA..typo error.
I do not use ADA substrate but most aquarist will not dose heavily at the start of the cycling period.
The ADA substrate will provide enough nutrient for now, other factor to consider is lighting.
Excess light is also considered to be the main cause of BBA.In a newly set-up tank ,
start with small quantity of dosing and lower lighting period .These can be gradually increased
after seeing the response of the plants.Similarly, on the out break of BBA, a sure-shot way of controlling the
spread of BBA is controlling the lighting period and dosing levels, your plants might get affected a little,
but in my opinion , it’s better to have slower growing plants with minimum BBA, than having fast plant growth
with equivalently fast spreading BBA in your tank.
You mean these are the start of BBA?
Yup.
-You can spot Treat algae with Seachem Excel.
-Weekly Water Changes.
-Increase or stabilize CO2 levels.
When enough carbon dioxide is trapped in the water column, plants will grow much quickly and, this growth also indicates that plants are taking
in nutrients and light. You will notice that Black Brush algae will begin to die with enough CO2 available.
It doesn't look like BBA that I had. It really looks more like BGA, unless that's the start of BBA? I tried spot treat with excel, nothing happened so far. Thinking of trying h2o2
I think you have it mixed up,BGA is Blue green algae,BBA is black brush algae,it may be black, brown red or green in colour.
Yours is GBA, green beard alage,it is the same category of BBA.
If there is slime like coat then it is BGA..

I found this on the web...it might help
http://www.bubblesaquarium.com/image...ater_algae.htm
Does that feel like thread? Seems like cladophora to me.
Unless you refer to the one that attached on the glass
I'm not too sure but it looks like hair algae to me? What differences are there between Green Beard Algae and Hair Algae?
Cheers,
JJ
It does somewhat look like cladophora as well

cladophora aka blanketweed can be stubborn to eradicate. If it is cladophora
manually pull it out until it stop growing..jialat!!
Bba looks like a clump of short black spiky clumps all over the place. They usually appear on leave edges or stems.
Seachem excel greatly helps. You can either spot dose as reccomended or take it out and brush it with excel. I usually take it out to brush as most of my plants are tied to lava rocks. For spot dosing, stop your filter flow before you start.
I try to take a better shot when my lights are up haha.
Looks like a combination of different algae... all probably start appearing with the jump in water column nutrient availability after flooding, its common in new tanks that are cycling anyways.
I usually wait until the tank is cycled then add in an army of hungry shrimps to clear the algae, can sometimes see a big difference overnight, especially those algae amongst the plants, the shrimps are way better at picking and removing those than compared to my hands.
Btw, your carpet plants are a mix of Monte Carlo and HC?
Seems like all the algae are hitting the same high flow area. It's HC, this small portion was from normal pot, use it for dsm testing for two weeks before flooding (unless the seller gave me monte Carlos instead lol). The rest are from tropica 1-2, so confirm is HC
Looks like Cladophora to me but probably should get another opinion to be sure![]()
