Anyone using 1200l/hr pump rate with 1/5 chiller for a 2ft tank?

    Will it be too power?

If i link to my 500lite/hr canister filer will it be able to take the pressure from this pump?

    My is a planted 60lite 2ft tank

    Thank.

I am using Ehiem 2075 with max flow rate at 1250L/hr. No issue. At most if you felt that the flow is too great, simply add a on/off quick release tap to regulate the flow.

I plan to pump in my canister than chiller. Will turn off my canister if flow is good enough.

You can consider getting a DC pump (eg Jebao DC3000 which runs at 3000l/hr http://www.jebaopumps.com/dc3000-lv-...ction-dc-pump/)

Unlike its AC counterpart which always runs at max power, a DC pump allows you to run at lower power.
I'm using the Jebao DC6000 (rated 6000 l/hr) for my 90P tank with overflow+ 1/4HP chiller, runs at about 60-80% power.

Also, even though the pump you mentioned in the 1st post states 1200l/hr, this spec is stated at 0 head height.
Once you factor in the height which the pump needs to pump up the water, resistance of pipes/media, you will probably end up with much lower flow rate. Perhaps drop around 30-50%.

    Hi Pgm iv,

A simple solution: switch off your canister and let the 1200 pump do the work. Of course if your canister is very small, say an eheim 2211, some people say that flow rate is too fast for beneficial bacteria to colonise or to work - hence reducing the effectiveness of the filter. There is some truth in this, to what extend you have to monitor yourself.

Your worries is not unfounded (have a ore filter 2017 size bursting out with 3000litres/hour pump). Suggest you do a little experimentation in the toilet with the pump and filter.

    Better safe than sorry yeah?

some update on my pump. fixed up my pump (direct in from tank) out to canister than to chiller return to tank with flow just nice I will said. Canister is off and if I need more power I can always on it with just a switch.

That pump spec is good, but I don wish to put pump in the tank. This will be another new toy on my upgrade list.

    Thank you

Re: 1200lite per hour pump for 2ft 60 lite tank

If a 1200l/h pump would not be overpowered for a standard 60P tank, would a Eheim 2217 attached to an inline CO2 diffuser be fine for a 2ft as well? With all the relevant adjustment valves would it put a lot of strain on the impeller?

    thanks
    Cheers,
    JJ

Re: 1200lite per hour pump for 2ft 60 lite tank

I'm using a 2217 with a CO2 reactor and chiller, and the flow works out to be just nice for my 2ft. I'm also using a skimmer. If there's not enough flow, I simply turn up the flow on my skimmer.
