One hour should be fine. If not an air pump should help during this period if your question is more on the tank and livestock.

I used to take 1 hr for maintenance (aka trimming/cutting etc) Nothing wrong nor any harm done to the BB in the filter.

Hahahaha. I think an hour should be fine. You could use those oxygen tables. I'm not too sure how useful they can be though

Actually 1 - 3hr is ok for fridge,it also depend on how good is your fridge insulation.
For tanks, mine ever get shut down accidentally for 6 hrs,it is a bit cloudy but within 2 hrs
everything clear up and back to normal and this is a 3 feet tank.
The EPS shut down will not take an hr, more like 30 mins only. They did it here at my place.
I know this because my lights turn on 30mins late after the installation.

Just make sure someone is at home, and when the electricity supply is turn back on, make sure the pumps and filters are all working. Sometime, they do not restart.

Re: What would you do in a situation like this?

1-2 hrs is not a issue for a stable tank, the dissolved oxygen in the tank will be enough to cover for that period, when i feed my shrimp tank i cut off the air pump/ chiller/ filter to stop disturbances when i feed and thats for 45 mins so im sure you will be fine if its just 1-2 hours for a established tank. if you are worried about the pumps not running again when the power comes back on (very unlukcly) just turn off ur main power supply and see if the pumps restart when its back on, there isnt any reason that they will not run again unless for canister filters there is an air pocket
