    Hi,

Thinking of upgrading my current drop in filter and go for a canister type.
However, I'm new and not deep in wallet hence need some cheap and good recommendation.

Tank currently is planted, with 100+ tetra.
    Length is 50cm.
As for media, only bought rings and cotton, along with purigen.

I wanted something simple, probably can poison with lily input and output pipes.
I notice the lily pipe sizes comes in 13mm and 17mm, which should I go for?

As for the canister, I wish to minimize spending, using back my rings, cotton, purigen.
    Most important is quiet.

I saw a couple of sellers letting go their canister but fear the reliability and performance.

    Pls enlighten.

If you go for 2nd hand canister filters, the Eheim ones are usually worth buying, they are tried and tested and have a reputation for long term reliability (still have to double-check the working condition before buying though). Look for those units that are only used for a few months with receipt, they are almost as good as new.

Personally, i've also tried other cheaper brands like Shiruba and Atman, may not be nearly as quiet or energy efficient, but they work well too.

With your current fish bio-load of 100+ tetra in a 50cm tank, you'll definitely need alot more filtration to handle that kind of high bio-load in the tank, therefore a canister filter would really help alot.

As for the lily pipe sizes, it depends on the hose size that the canister filter uses, usually most medium-sized canister filters use 12/16 hoses so you will pick the 13mm lily pipes (17mm lily pipes are for the larger canister filters which use 16/22 hoses).

You might wanna consider the professional series.
I like the filter media baskets.
given the size of your tank, you might wanna consider a 2424 (experience 250). This is the old professional.
if your cabinet can accommodate, maybe 2071(professional 3). The pipes are also larger.
there are quite a few on buy-sell. You can try your luck there

    my tank is only 50cm..
i don't have cabinet, the stand can only allocate 35cm lesser for the canister height

The fact that you have 100+ fishes for a 50cm tank is already overkill hahah. So you need better filtration.

Maybe you want to consider offloading half of your tetras?
Any pictures of your tank set up?

Unlikely, we been keeping them for the last 2 months, from small to middle size now..
    Hence grown affection.

You can browse it under my nick, nothing much changes.
Just additional of co2, more led lights, as the poison goes deeper.

A good filter should solve this, afterall, it's only cloudy water. No illness etc.

Re: Wanna ask about canister filter

    A suggestion:
Buy a classic 2217 with 16/22mm inlet and 12/16 outlet
Buy another fluval hang on c3 or c4 to handle mechanical filtration for all that load
