    Re: my Dunno-what rescape

The rock placement is not bad However, they do seem a little different in colour but that is very slight so no worries.

Any reason why you placed nanas at the left area near the rocks? I dont think they look natural there. Perhaps you might want to try out other midground plants? The right side seems bare but i think you did plant something there.

    hi! tks for the comments.

the rocks is just a case of old and new ones.
what plant do you suggest to replace nana?

right side is planted sparsely with crypt parva.

    Re: my Dunno-what rescape

After some online surfing, would it be better to replace nana with staurogyne tropica/repens
    staurogyne repens.JPG

..also maybe would like to place a few Eriocaulon cinereum near the rocks at the right?

    What do you think?

    Re: my Dunno-what rescape

I find the right side a little bare as well. The focus of the tank seems to be lopsided.
Right now, the main focus of the tank seems to be between the cluster of Blyxa Japonica/Rotala Rotundifolia on the left and the centre main rock.

Maybe you could consider adding another cluster of Blyxa Japonica/Rotala Rotundifolia on the right to even out the scape and make the centre rock the main focus?

Alternatively, add another large rock on the left to make the focus shift to the cluster of Blyxa Japonica/Rotala Rotunidifolia

    Just my 2 cents.
    Cheers,
    JJ

This is what i see ...
left side is plant and right side is rocks...
You should follow the golden rules or the rule of thirds.
Here is an an article for you to read about the rules.

    Re: my Dunno-what rescape

Hi guys! Thanks for the honest comments!

From what i gather in your suggestions, main point now is

1)Too many focus points. Rock and blyxa.
    2)Right side seems bare.

What i may do is take away the smaller stones on the right first.
I may smoothen the right side "slope" away.
Re-arrange the two biggest stones in the middle. I may take away one and leave the one with a sharper pointy side to face abit slanted up at an angle.
The above said stone will be shifted abit nearer to the middle and then be surrounded by additional blyxas so it appears to be half covered by them to take away the focus from the stone.

The anubias nanas maybe shift slightly close to the blyxas.
I may be adding staurogyne repens/tropica in the foreground.

Buy one more tub of monte carlo to fill up the right side of the tank to carpet faster.

Hope the pros here understand what i am saying above.

much better. My suggestion, move the main rocks to the left, place it at golden section and add more rocks, smaller one, on the right. Remove the blyxa infront of the rocks

Hi guys!, Thanks for the input and suggestions.

Did another shifting today and probably gonna stop shifting and wait for the plants to grow.
The gaps in between the plants will be naturally filled up in time.
Some rocks will be partially covered and that's my intentions.
It's the same main rock, just inverted, haha.

Did i do better this time round? Your comments will be greatly appreciated.

Wahhh look at the drastic improvements!

I think you should plant more. If you plant sparsely at the beginning, algae has a much higher chance of taking hold early. Yes, the plants will grow in eventually, but it will be at the expense of starting a war with algae.

Planting heavily at the start helps the tank establish quicker and better

Hi guys, a 1 month update of my tank,
have since trimmed the rotala for a few times already.

Slower growing plants attacked by green spot algae and some minor slime on the sides, but have since recovered by dimming the lights to 3/4 strength.

not sure which rock you are referring to, but you can just lift up the rock, put some soil underneath and put the rock back.

By the way, the foreground plant need to trim.

    Your carpet is really lush!!!

Could trim the blyxa back and allow the Rotalas to tower over them. I think that would look nice!

    Re: my Dunno-what rescape

i just trimmed my rotalas before i took the pic (in fact i trimmed the whole tank).

i just thought of using the corrugated board to make a 'stand' to lift up my rock...time for some art and craft!......
