Trimming Elatine (APP) questions

HI, I know alot of people on this forum keep elatine and was hoping you could answer a couple questions on the plant?
What is the best way to trim it when it gets to thick? If I give it a "haircut" will it grow back ok, Or should I just uproot the whole thing and replant? Thanks for any advice and you've got a great forum here!

I think the haircut method should be easier, not unless you want to replant... which is quite troublesome
