I bought 2 from them awhile back. 1 of them died from misadventure (got stuck between my rock crevices), then i got another 1 but alas, my 1st surviving 1 died on me not too long ago, now left with 'new' 1. Thinking to get another but looking around 1st to see if there are cheaper options.
GC? then I dont bother already as some of their livestock are over priced in my opinion (e.g. zebra otos going for $24-26/pc where I can get them for like $12/pc). So i cant really imagine the price of an orange oto, supposedly a more expensive fish than zebra....

I have moved the surviving one to my shrimp tank with green algae on the panels and rocks. Seems to be doing well for the past two days, even had green poo coming out. I realized their dietary and behaviour are abit different from the common oto. They don't hang around together and don't eat the fungus on driftwood like the common ones, they are not even interested in the Repashy Soilent Green that I put in the tank which the common ones love.
very nice pictures
Why do you say oto don't survive more than 6 months in tank? Mine doesn't seem to eat those aglae on the tank walls too. Not sure if they can survive??
They meant orange otos... those tend to be more sensitive and fragile compared to normal otos, hence many people find it tough to keep them alive for a longer period of time.
I've kept orange otos before too and also eventually lost them after a few months, while i have other normal otos which are still alive and healthy after 2+years.
Is zebra oto sensitive too? I bought two and they didn't survive beyond 3 weeks. Got another two 2 weeks ago and now left with one. My normal otos and other live stocks are doing fine.
So far, i've found zebra otos to be quite hardy... around the same as normal otos. Just have to pick the healthy ones, acclimate them properly to a tank before introduction and ensure the water conditions are stable.
Though i find that zebra otos do grow much larger compared to normal otos (the oldest zebra oto i got is almost around 6cm length now), therefore they need more supply of food. I usually have to supplement their diet with regular feedings of sinking/algae wafers and vegetable slices, otherwise they tend to get skinny over time.
Yeah when I bought my last two pieces from the shop, I can only find a small one. The rest were around 3 cm plus already and fat too. I only saw the smaller one in my tank and the big one has "MIA". Most likely dead!!
Saw the smaller one dead today!
Did a rescape of my 2ft and move all to my 1ft cube. 5 out of the 6 gourami leaped to their death, the Orange oto still doing well in my shrimp tank. Took a simple video of the kubotai and gourami in actions in my tiny tank.
amazing! thanks for sharing.

Looks nice!
Any full tank shot? So far we've only seen parts of the tank.![]()
wow looks great setup there. Can i ask how you took the pics. Great close ups
Thanks! Hope you enjoyed it.
Have decom the 2ft... The video is my "storeroom" like 1ft cube where I pretty much just put in all the spare driftwoods and plants that I gotten in the past. Because it is a tiny 1ft tank, the whole tank is pretty much shown in the video just in bits and pieces lol. Will try to take a shot of the full tank, but the snippet shots are nicer than the full haha.
I took it with Canon 70D and a 24-70 lens to capture both the photography and video, I reckon a marco lens would be much easier to capture the images which unfortunately I do not have haha.
you don't need the macro it's already very beautiful with the perspectives you're getting and bokeh effects! I love how your 1ft is choke full of driftwood and ferns. provides a lot of hiding place

Very nice tank. I can imagine your FTS must be very nice too. Does your kubotai look so shiny green in person? May i ask what light you are using?
