    Hi Guys,

I just try out my first aquascaping with Monte Carlo and Hairgrass. The planting seems kinda messy but hope they are still able to grow.....

Still need the seniors to guide and advice me along the way.

Will update the pictures later cause unable to load from hp.

    Are you attempting an Iwagumi?

Rock placement looks ok, just that white does really stand out quite a bit. Wait for the the plants to grow out first but looks ok for now

Maybe you would like to change to a Hang On filter instead of the one you are using now or use a mini canister like Eheim 2211 or Eden. Saves you some estate space in the tank.

Yeah, agree with Philipians! Rock placement does look decent. Rocks have some character.

Maybe you could try to plant the MC and Hairgrass in smaller clumps and spread them out. This will help the plants spread and carpet faster. Once the plants root, trimming them slightly will also encourage faster and more growth.

Also, I think the tank will have a 'cleaner' feel if you use a canister filter (as mentioned by Philipians). You are using an Over Head Filter now right?

You could also consider adding some Yamatos or Otos to reduce algae in the tank. Just my 2 cents

    Hi Philipians / Jiahuen90,

Currently mine is a cube tank with enclosed top cover and inbuilt filter. Unable to remove the top cover and filter as well. Might shift it to 2ft open top tank with OHF if my MC and hair grass is successful cause it a virgin planting....lol

Just gave my 2 balloon ram and sucker fish to my brother. Now just gotten wait and see hows my gardening skill...

    Re: My first cube tankbAquascaping

My first tank was a 1.5ft cube set too. It was one of those curve front sets with inbuilt light and filter from Boyu. Parents didn't let me get a new tank so I had to work with it. After meddling with it for a while, I pulled off the cover added some fans and did a new lighting system. Managed to grow a decent lawn of HG.

The thing about the tank sets from my experience is that the lighting is often insufficient to grow plants that generally demand higher light. Also because of the cover, the tank trapped a lot of heat. Water was at an average 30 degrees. A little too high for most plants.

A standard open top will definitely be better.
