Someone sold me a pre-owned 2ft glass tank + OHF filter/pump + metal stand for a good price today and I was planning to set up a low-tech planted tank.
I was able to bring the stuff home without issues but when I was cleaning the tank in the bathroom, It slipped off my hand and banged the tiles for a couple of inches while I was trying to lift it by one side .
It resulted in a very small crack at the bottom but was enough to cause leak rendering the tank unusable
I cannot believe it, I am always careful about cleaning and setting up equipments yet this one that I was so excited about got me good with that freak accident.
I'm not sure if I still intend to hunt for another tank but for now I just feel so terrible

Sorry to hear that... but at least it was only a crack in the glass, it didn't break into sharp pieces which could cause cuts and injury.

I also had a similar incident a whole back too, with the glass tank slipping off my hand while i was washing it, very often it due to holding the side wall of the tank, not the bottom (which is more secure).

What i do now is place the tank on a low stool or plastic box during washing, so that the tank itself is raised above the floor, its easier to wash and i can lift it up securely by the bottom once done. No more slipping anymore!

It was actually wierd how it happened.
Typically glass tanks come with a styropore bottom to secure it when placing on top of a stand right?
So I placed that on the floor in the bathroom and wash the tank on top of it. It's supposed to make the tank safer.
But when I was lifting one side of the tank to drain the remaining water inside (there's till about 5% water in the tank that I cannot siphon out any more), It slipped off the styropore and banged the tile. It's just a half inch thickness but that short drop was enough to crack the glass.
Perhaps its a sign that I may not yet be ready to setup a second tank

    Hi Allan

Try not to read too deep into things, a tank is fragile and it can break easily, nothing to do with ready to start or anything along that line. Just look at it as a freak accident and like UA mentioned, the fortunate thing is no one is hurt (physically). If I were you, go out there are get another tank...set it up and enjoy and it will surpass that ill feeling you are having now.
