Hanging Breeding Acrylic Box

Good morning guys, anyone of you are using a hanging breeding acrylic box on your shrimp tank?

Thinking of getting one, as I noticed there are a few berried CRS and wanted to "quarantine" them separately, also to ensure the shrimplets will not die so easily in the "wilderness" of the tank.

Any pros and cons of using breeding box? Care to share?

Do you have fishes in the tank that may eat the new born shrimplets?

If not, then its not really necessary to use breeder boxes... in my experience, the breeder boxes tend to increase the stress of the berried shrimps (they are trapped in a small area and unable to access all the natural beneficial bio-film and food in the rest of the tank). I've also noticed that shrimplets also tend to survive better and grow faster when being allowed to move freely in the tank itself grazing on natural micro-algae and bio-film too (rather than being confined inside the breeder box).

Good thought there. ...to answer your question, it's a pure shrimp tank...no fishes..

In that case, its a shrimp paradise with zero predators, just let them utilize the entire tank to graze and forage.

Hi Johnny,
For me, tha main advantage for breeding box is you can feed all the shrimplets (if you are using the powder form) without messing up the whole tank.

I have the same tot, thinking to keep better grade like Blue bolt or KK in the breeding box but with plenty of plants and moss not sure if it feasible?

Reason to keep in the breeding box as my main tank already have CRS, do not want to mix and cross breed

Not advisable as reasons given by UA. Better to use divider to partition your tank.

What other uses are there for the breeding box?
I bought a "double" breeding box to temporary house my CRS. But now, its not in use.

I use the breeding box to acclimatise the new shrimp to the tank water by dripping one drop at a time. I learn from users in this forum.

Not sure if it's applicable to you. If you are using a breeding box, do not shine your aquarium light directly and near at them.
