2ft Crayfish Tank

Finally divided my 2ft tank to house 3 crays. Hope to hear some comments.


Can any AQers help advise how i can improve the filtering?
The dual sponge filter quite weak, hence i removed one already. Anyone got cheap air pump to intro so i can get the dual sponge filter working?

I actually got them at Seaview, its those blue lobster that they sell, initially it was light blue, after 1 month, mine turn out beautiful. Went last week, they restocked already. Hurry! grab them!

I know which one you're referring to! I bought 4 of them and they all turned Brown after moulting. How did you get yours to turn out so nice?

probably due to water condition or gravel? try black gravel?

My gravel was black too! It's probably the water :/ did you put anything in anything special? What are you feeding yours?

nothing. maybe my wall blue :P

Maybe cause of stress also. Putting 4 together might stress them

I considered the stress too, but I was experimenting whether having more color influence would encourage developing that color. I tried that on mountain shrimp and it seemed to work. Wonder how lfs keeps them so pretty in large numbers

I think what you done is right.
i bought 3 crayfish and put them in the same tank, with lots of hiding places.
After one week, one was eaten and the other lost a leg. All are healthy and i guess they were attacked during molting.
I see many of the crayfish at Seaview are missing legs and claws. Too many per tank!
So if you want your crayfish to have a complete set of claws and legs, its best to separate them or just buy one.
Lesson well learnt.

Yeap, i started with two. one of them got attacked after molting, only manage to grow back a claw. After awhile, that one claw escaped the tank and died few days later.

The blue cray in this post is a procambarus alleni?

Nope the bright blue one is cherax quadricarinatus AKA red-claw crayfish, the male will have a red at the side of each claws. the greenish gray crayfish is a procambarus clakii mix colour i think.

i bought it 7 weeks ago. it was baby blue at the start . molted twice when i bought it. molted around every 2.5 weeks.

I was reading the previous post and recalled blue lights, blue background and black substrate helps get it blue.
Wonder are there anymore tips? What about diet?

Hmmm, i'm new actually but i'm aware of colour changing due to environment , not sure how. But mine, im having white lights, black substrates, feeding of sinking food stick. my background was blue initially, changed it to white.
