It wouldn't be possible because those double taps are different size... you'll need to use a hose reducer to do the job.
Note that reducing the hose will also reduce the overall flow rate of the canister filter.
Hi all, I'm upgrading my eheim filter and was wondering if it's possible to use the double taps to reduce hose size. Basically the idea is to screw one half of a 16/22 mm to another half of 12/16 mm double tap. I felt this will be a neater vs using reducing pipes. Anybody know if doable?

The hose ends are different size but the screw thread end is the same for all the various eheim double taps I think. If threads are the same then can connect and reduce the hose. I'm ok with reduce flow cos my tank remains same size
Not sure how you figure they can all have the same screw-on connection diameter... here is a side-by-side size comparison between the 16/22 double tap (left) vs 12/16 double tap (right):
Logically, the connection points would have different diameters to maintain their respective flow throughputs.![]()

Pics truly speak a thousand words. Thank for the comparison. Guess my idea not possible
I guess you can just get the simple reducers, just a few dollars each, connect to one end and you can just use one set of double taps.
You can look for the ISTA brand one, this photo was posted in another thread, but just for easier reference (they have lock nuts to make the connection more secure)...
There are also reducers from other brands that even have an inbuilt tap and can apparently disconnect too, here is a photo from google search:
I've seen similar ones at places like C328 and Seaview, but have not personally used those particular versions before, so can't comment on their quality or reliability. Perhaps you can get a set to try out and see if it works well.
Simple reducers will be good enough. Those black single piece one can be bought for less than 1 buck i think.
I bought 1 recently, reinforced with 2 brace (super extra), but cannot remember how much i spent.
So far so good, no leak.
Just be sure to check the number printed on the connector to ensure you buy the right one
