I did a Google check on cyanobacteria bloom in aquarium and to my horror, I found that it may cause health issue. Example like intermittent diahorriea, headache and skin irritation. Don't know whether will there is a health issue if some hobbyists are constantly coming in contact with removal of Cyanobacteria?

My wife and kids didn't want to hug me as they do not want to smell like a fish tank too.
Oh. Wait. Health Issue. Actually, yes. Above led me to depression. But maybe about 2 seconds worth of it.

Seriously, no. I have not had any health issue due to physical exposure of many different forms of algae. Mostly, green hair algae for me. I guess we should be fine as long as we do not ingest it.

Google or any search engine can always give you a multitude of scenarios and should be taken with a pinch of salt.

I would view the larger population, whom has been in this hobby for upteenth years and still pretty much going strong.

My advice is to go out and enjoy your hobby and not be taken in with too much science and theory. Most hobbyist enjoy it as an art and that is what keeps us going

as a biologist, I can tell you for sure that if your tank looks remotely clear and healthy, there's not enough Cyanobacteria in there to do any harm to you. That is assuming of course you are not drinking your tank water when doing water changes. even if you do, you have to drink a lot. If you wish to google, I suggest you google specifically, "toxic Cyanobacteria levels" and perhaps look at some pictures. that should give you an idea of the concentration required to make you sick. more scientifically, certain species of Cyanobacteria are more toxic than others. but of course, we're not putting our tank water under microscope. oh you guys know that Cyanobacteria = BGA right

Blue green algae have been used for weight loss and as a nutritional supplement. It has also been used for boosting the immune system and for controlling cholesterol levels. Some herbal/diet supplement products have been found to contain possibly harmful impurities/additives. Its supporters claim health benefits, including increased energy, improved memory, greater mental clarity and focus, improved digestion, control of appetite and cravings, heightened immune function, and relief from fatigue, hypoglycemia, PMS, anxiety and depression. It’s even recently been called a cure for Attention Deficit Disorder. Its detractors say it is nothing more than pricey pond scum and the latest bit of natural health care quackery. Debates have raged fiercely for years between the supporters and detractors, and now, the Canadian government has stepped into the fray.

    No joke. http://www.murraybluegreenalgae.com/...e-benefits.php
