Hi guys, currently i have a 1 year old tank running with gex shrimp/plant soil and thinking of converting it to a more biotope like tank.

Is it ok if i buy one 9L Ada Malaya soil and pour it in to be the top layer?

i read online ADA Malaya produces very little ammonia initially.

So is it better to just take out all the gex soil and use only malaya soil?
Planning for crypts, anubias, java fern with root tabs for crypts.

    Any experts can comment?

Re: Mixing 2 different brand of soil, pls help

I think it should not be a problem.

Only 2 issues I can think of.

The 2 colors of soil might mix over time when you uproot plants or do

Both soils il shave different pH values. This might affect the final pH value of the water. However, as the GEX soil has already been in the tank for quite a while, it's buffering capacity might have already run out so pH of the water should eventually be that of the Malaya soil.
    Cheers,
    JJ
