This hobby is poisonous instead. After the 1.5 foot is up and running and pretty much maintenance free except for the weekly water change and trimming, this is what happened...

    Attachment 45057

Tank Size: 35cm x 21cm x 23cm (Low Iron High Clarity Crystal Glass)
    Substrate: ADA Amazonia Aquasoil
    Lighting: Aquazonic T5 2 x 8W 12,000k SuperSun
Filter: Dophin H-100 Hang on Filter

Just bought 2 pots of Glosso from y618 and intend to plant them later on. The bog wood will be boiled progressively before tying on mini fissidens. These are current plans... No plans for stem plants yet.

Initial plans are to keep shrimps, but while cycling the tank, I will observe the temperature. Should temperatures be too high (no plans to use fans or chiller), I might convert to keeping a pair of Apisto instead. We shall see...

Full credits to Urban Aquaria. His 13L Nano tank was my inspiration and tempted me to get this tank. In fact.. I am just a copycat...

Hahaha. I remember a point in time I was setting up tanks almost weekly

Since you gave yet to set up the tank, maybe you could consider sloping the substrate so that the tank has more depth. Maybe can find another driftwood with more character.

haha. Just my 2 cents la

I actually did think of sloping the substrate before putting it, but my concerns were mainly that the rear, where i intend to raise would go too high, forcing my HOB intake to go further up. In addition, the ADA soil, being so easy to disturb and "kick up", might not cope well with the reduced distance to the "sprout" after increasing the height of the substrate, given that the tank is only 23cm tall.

As for the driftwood, when I have time, will go check out more pieces again... initial thoughts are that i want something flatter so i can see the shrimps sitting on them.

Perhaps slope to the right back corner instead?

Maybe can consider getting a canister filter? Might be better for the shrimps to have better filtration. Maybe a eheim 2211 hehehe

Tried it last night but decided i didn't really like the look.

Went ahead to plant Glosso... i have a bad feeling about it. If i do tear it up, i will explore how to create a slope again lol

I considered a canister, but a tiny one like the Eden or the Boyu. Main objective was not to get too much flow in the tank... but its seriously shit cleaning a canister. I hate doing that for my 1.5ft... lol and its only a small canister!!

For my main tank, im using something similar. The Azoo canister filter. Exact same factory as the Shiruba, only difference is the media it comes with. Shiruba comes with ceramic rings, Azoo with their own line of bio media.

Don't really like it actually... the flow gets affected really quickly once the intake is slightly blocked with dropped leaves from the stem plants.

    Quick update.

Planted Glosso and also attempted for the first time in my life, to tie some plants to driftwood. Picked US Fissidens and tried my hand at tying it. Looks like crap but hope they grow... If the glosso and fissidens fail, I'm tearing them up and maybe going for the tried and tested method of buying someone's matured DW in marketplace.

Looks well planted don't worry, growing moss on driftwood is fairly easy. Just make sure algae doesn't take over and tangle in with the moss. Only then might you have a nightmare

    Wow, fast leg fast hand.

Welcome to the dark side, you got your second tank.

Dophin hang on filter is good, don't worry much. I bought all the series of Dophin hob and never give me any problems. Using them for my 25cm, 40cm, 50, 60.
Cheap and good, lots of space for you to dump rings and media.

Gloss looks so good. Too bad, no more space for me..
Otherwise would love to get my hands on them.

So what shrimps are you going for?

if driftwood fail, maybe you can follow UA's dry start method with the fissidens which he had aMAZING results

Ya bro, the day when u whatsapp me and i told u i left Seaview earlier in the day?

I came home with all these lol. Yup Dophin is pretty good and cheap, no complaints about it. Probably gonna try the RCS first... see how they survive. Current tank temperatures around 27-28...

UA has amazing results with everything!!

I thought of trying it out, i still have some fissidens. Do you have any idea where i can get those small coconut husks or similar small wood pieces to do DSM on the fissidens?

    no need to waste money..

just re use your driftwood, cut the string out.
put the fissidens, moss on it.
put everything in a container and under the sun.
    spray it daily.
give it 2 weeks or more, they will cling onto the wood.
