As long as the bio-media is still solid (ie. not breaking apart or crumbling into dust), then it can continue to be used without issue. Not necessary to replace it.

Do you replace the filter media say after 2 years? or can we use it forever? This relates to eheim filters using subtrate pro or mech pro

I had used my filter media for more than 4 years. Those that had become smaller over time will be replace. The rest still can used.
