One of my Yamato shrimps turned black and it looked similar to the picture.

The colour is similar with one white stripe from head to tail. I am sure it looks colourless when I got it.
Its very shy and always hiding in the rocks and never venture out far from its hiding place.
So far I have only seen it twice for the past week.
Any idea what could be wrong with the shrimp?

Do not think anything is wrong.

While I am unable to technically dictate why the color is such, I can second guess it could be because of the food it scavenged or the environment it is in. Why do it say so?

I have some Yamato that turns greenish, again it could be because of the algae or vegetative type food it has been scavenging. They continue to live till this day after months.

    Thanks for your reply.
Food source so far I can think of are fish food and hikari algae wafer for my fishes and shrimps.
I have about 20 yamato shrimps and only one of them turned black. I thought I got a mutant

That yamato might not be a yamato but a malayan shrimp in disguise

I see, thanks for the replies.
This Malaya shrimp is extremely shy and I have not really seen it often. Maybe it know its the only Malaya shrimp in the tank.
