Wow, thats quite alot of extra space available at the back of the cabinet... that should allow for sufficient ventilation, though for those of us always trying to maximize tank size and space in our rooms, we would probably be thinking more along the lines of "maybe can upgrade to larger tank and cabinet depth instead".

    Alright!

I've spent some time on the drawing board and came up with 2 potential scapes so far. Both are rather similar though.
    All comments are welcomed!!

    Scape 1:

    Scape 2:
    [IMG][/IMG]

One was taken in the day and the other at night so the lighting is a quite off.

Personally I like scape 1 more. Thoughts?
    Cheers,
    JJ

I agree that scape 1 looks nicer too... if you are using sand in the middle pathway, maybe can try positioning 1 or 2 smaller rocks on it to simulate some branching tributary effect in the "sandy stream".

    Re: Classic 2ft Aquascape: Wonder

Won't be using sand. I always find it very troublesome to keep clean

At this point the plan is to plant HG.

Either way, I think your suggestion to place smaller rocks to break the grass would be better

    Re: Classic 2ft Aquascape: Wonder

Yes. My chiller is still placed in my cabinet and it is working fine. I monitored the cabinet temperature for about a month after the last modification and I am very satisfied with it.

Wow. I can see that you double tap almost everything. I will say that it is almost an overkill but recalling my maintenance routine, I will say that it is a smart move that you are making.

From your pictures, I prefer the second scape. More place for the fish to swim. Are you planning a sand bath in-between the 2 branches, diagonally across the tank?

    Re: Classic 2ft Aquascape: Wonder

Yup! I realized that with so many things going on, double taps would help tremendously. It' only 3 double taps .

Anyways, i have a few more scape ideas.

    Scape 3
    [IMG][/IMG]

    Scape 4
    [IMG][/IMG]

For these i decided to remove my initial main piece and work with the smaller pieces to try and create more space.

    What do you all think?
    Cheers,

    Re: Classic 2ft Aquascape: Wonder

    The plan now in action

    10.30pm
Return from dinner out with my family.
Plants brought home a few hours before.
    [IMG][/IMG]

    11.45pm
Worked around last scape design to come up with final scape.
    Washing of rocks
Rocks are different in color due to some being wet
    [IMG][/IMG]

    12.00am
    Filling of base substrate.
No base additives and no power sand, just ADA Ammazonia
    Popular Card as Shovel
    [IMG][/IMG]

    1.00am
Filling in scape and slope. A lot of fiddling around to get the right placement.
Looks decent. Hopefully planting goes well.
    [IMG][/IMG]

    1.30am
    Plant prep....
2 pots of hair grass.... 8 more to go
    [IMG][/IMG]

    2.45am
Anubias Nana petite planted with ISTA aquarium glue. Hair grass planted. Only needed 5 pots.
Tank partially filled for easy planting
    [IMG][/IMG]

    4am
Staurogyne Repens is prepped and planted
Tank slowly filled with siphon from a bucket and water is poured onto a tau huay tub container lid to prevent substrate disturbance.
Rotala sp. Red & Rotala sp. Green are prepped and planted too.
Surface skimmer set to run to clear surface debris.
    [IMG][/IMG]

    4.15am
    Pack up and wash up

    5am
    Sleep

    To be continued...
    Cheers,
    JJ

Seems quite good. It's a gel type glue. It does not dry very fast though.

    Continuing....

Copying what UA did for one of his tanks, I stuck more Anubias Nana on small rocks with ISTA Aquarium Glue
    [IMG][/IMG]

    Did about 10 of them
    [IMG][/IMG]

Planted these and another pot of Staurogyne Repens
    Cheers,
    JJ

It is looking good, bro. But as effective I find the surface skimmer to be, I find it just as much unslightly. I managed to hide mine behind my woodscape but you do not have that luxury. I would suggest you try running your tank first without the surface skimmer and see if the lily pipe is good enough to get rid of the surface oil.

Looking, perhaps some mosses on the branches will give a aged feel to it? How thick is the base soil?
