I had recently bought a themometer and had realised that the water temperature in my tank had been around 29-31 degree celcius.

Is the water considered too warm for both the fish and the shrimps? Coz I had read that majority of them will survive properly at about 24-26 degree celcius.

I had the following in my 2 ft tank.
    - 6 Neon/Cardinal tetra
    - 1 Rummy Nose tetra
    - 5 Rasboras
    - 2 Flame Guramis
    - 3 Albino Corys
    - 2 Leopard Spotted Corys
    - 2 Panda Corys
    - 5 Guppies
    - ~ 10 shrimps (Yamatos/Ghost/Malayan)

    Too many fish?

I realised that I had added more than 10 Malayan Shrimps but I only managed to spot only 2 of them after a few days.... dunno if the others had died coz there are plants everywhere...

too many fish for your 2ft tank? the "guide" is 1-inch per gallon, right? some people may say abit too many...

but my 2ft has at least double that amount!!![] [] []

generally, the lesser fish in the tank, lesser maintenance time needed loh. i may change the water every 6 days or 1 week, but i need to change the white filter floss every 3 or 4 days.

why i got so many fish in that tank? "beginner's mistake" lah! anyway, occupants are being moved to my new 3ft tank, progressively.

Err .. I would say this is fish lover's mistake.
Everytime I step into a LFS, I just cannot resist buying some fish.

BTW CoryFav, care to share what are the fish you have in your tank?

    watch the cories
if they keep on popping to the surface for air, either run an airstone or use a fan to cool down the water
the warmer the water is, the less oxygen it holds

as for the temperature having a direct effect on fish, the fish i notice have problems are pandas and leopard cories
tetras and rasboras are pretty easy wrt temp

thanks DEA, I had just installed a fan to blow the water surface.
Got a shock yesterday when the temperature reaches 32 deg!

After blowing on the water surface for the whole night, it drops to 29 deg. But quite a substantial amount of water had evaporated off!

What are your tank's temperature range?

    Hi
I get between 27-29 d.celcius. Only casualties so far r my 3 silver hatchetfish...but dunno if it's attributable to the heat.

Fans blowing on water surface , i maintain about 26-28deg
Everything going smoothly , only gripe i have is that got slight water movement and hence dont think its easily possible to attain CO2 saturation.

nizz, hatchet freak out very frequently.. they r sensitive to their surround. i observed that, they usually jump during the mid of the nite

art, u mean O2 saturation rite? to produce O2 bubbling

Erm not too sure the exact term , something like to have Co2 properly dissolved in the water without losing it too fast to the surrounding air due to water surface turbulence. Is that O2 saturation ?

Cos my riccia doesnt bubble despite the fact that its growing well.
    Lighting wise almost 7W/gallon.

They r cute little buggers...will not give up on them. BTW, mine didn't jump out...they just died on me wif no signs of any disease...1 after another...water parameters were fine.

artvale, are you having the sinking type of riccia? these will not bubble but much easier to maintain. The riccia-scape tank that Nature Aq has is the sinking type.
why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.
