That depends on the species in question. For common ones like C. aeneus, paleatus etc, all you need are some juveniles. Grow them up as a group and hopefully you have a mix of males and females among them. Feed well on high protein foods like worms and tablet foods. A big water change, especially during a rainy day will usually trigger the adults to spawn if they are ready and well-conditioned. They will deposit eggs all over the tank, usually on the glass or on your aquarium plants.
