    hey planty,

i can't see much from the pic but does the hair like thing sprout side leaves, something like how moss grows? because from the photo, i have a feeling that it is just Riccia propagating, rather than algae. (correct me if i am wrong)

you are not wrong except that no many people has the right answer Ha ha.

sorry, if anyone know how to get in a bigger picture please let me know. spend some time trying to get in bigger picture. they only allow 48kb for picture. if give me your email, i can send it to you.

it could be a hair algae, no, there is no small leave growing but grow on the side as it continue to spread. it is nothing like the moss.

the riccia could not have propagate this as it is totally different from the Riccia plant. it is almost like a film but not quite as i had them before.

thank for your though. let me know what you can suggest to help to rid of this pest as i do not like it.

    thanks

    Hi,

if i comb them out, would that harm my riccia too.

do you think some fish may eat them? i try mollies, but they are not touching the algae.

    thanks

I will find that troublesome. I would rather start all over again. Riccia grows very fast. But make sure the tank is rid of them. Yamatos will love Hair Algae.

Ok, does the "algae" look like one long green thin strand, and with little balls of leaves around it?

i just had a closer look. it does looks like long, thin and green strand but no little balls of leaves around it.

do you think Molly will eat it if i do not feed the fish for 2 to 4 days?

    thanks

It should, because I've seen Mollies eating them before. But I've heard results vary though.

In the end, the most foolproof way is to control your nutrients and make sure your plants are growing well.
