To date, this has got to be one of my favourite species. The colours on such a small fish... Just stunning
Hi,
This is a beautiful fish that closely resembles the aggressive Betta foerschi. The pair was witnessed embracing on several occasions but no eggs were produced. It was only recently that the pair finally spawned and fry were seen swimming in the tank.
Here are the fry, hiding behind a leaf of Epipremnum aureum (Money plant)
Have a nice day.

That is very true. This fish has been very special to me. I still remember when you asked me about it in 2012. Only got lucky recently. I'm planning to pair this male with another female I bought from Hermanus some time after the fry have grown much larger.
I hope to continue this fish in the long term, so it might be best to keep a few unrelated pairs to maintain its gene pool.

Yup, I don't think its easy to get apart from a few breeders. So it's worth keeping the line. Is the mother the female I passed to you by any chance? If not, both our lines are separate which is a good thing.

The fry came from your pair. I'm still waiting for the fry to mature. I've already fished out the older fry which are now about a cm in length. Noticed that older fry cannibalize on their younger siblings given the chance so I have to dose their tank with daphnia to keep the older fry full.
I'm planning to keep two separate lines. At least I know this male is prolific which is a good thing. He has been a good father all this while. I just need to get the current batch of fry out and pop the other female in.

That's nice to know. Seems like this line (including their parents) are highly prolific. I have a few pairs separated which look like good matches, with frequent bubble nests. Reminds me of the channoides line mudskipper used to have!

Yeap, treasure this kind of prolific fish while you have. I still reminisce the time where the channoides pair bred like rabbits.

this was a good read. good to know that there are breeders around that are mindful of keeping a healthy gene pool of species![]()

An update on the progress of the fry.
Currently, the above fry are growing out in their own separate tank. They are doing alright and I hope to have a proportionate sex ratio with this species.
This is the 2nd batch of fry still growing alongside their parents. I'm going to remove them once they are slightly larger. Planning to switch the female with the other one that I have so that I can have two different blood lines of hendra.
Have a nice weekend ahead.![]()
