Hi...

I managed to get a cheap set of the above mention item...
I am going to use it for my 4ft by 1.5ft by 2ft tank...

Will it be overkilling for the plants?
What precautions should I take to make sure that no algae visits me?

Is this an out door MH lamp?....or is it the typical warehouse type.....the problem with 400watts on a single lamp hood is that you need to suspend it pretty high to get your tank covered in light.

You are having about 80 to 100 watts extra ........this means that you need extra care not to over dose your tank with liquid fert.....ensure enough CO2, plan your tank layout well ( bright light loving plants shading lower light loving plants), well stocked algae cleaning crew, and keep the water cool.

I will monitor the CO2 level everyday. Try to maintain it at about 25-30ppm
