hi folks
i have a bare tank
-80x40x40cm
-2 x 36 watts osram
-quartz gravel
-one pack of JBL aquabasis
-some denerlee,maybe 1/10 kg
-hanging filter and inner filter
i want to make aquascape with 2 view point at the longest side(3 views better),i think about amano style aqua,(one long mangrove wood, hair grass, moss, anubias,n fern)
but the problem is, i dont have enough money to buy CO2 system,so
1. is it ok to grow hair grass without CO2?how to grow it?is the lighting ok?(10 cm on top of the water surface)
2. is JBL fert is good?
3. i plan to fill it with exotic shrimp only,
my friend told that hair grass is difficult to grow without CO2.is it right?
if so how about glosso, what the other grass like plan that can live without CO2 (e.tennelus no)
regards

When I bought my Hari Grass from Teo Farm, they harvest it from one of the cement tanks under the sun and they still look good. Since they don't inject CO2 into the cement tanks, it shows that the Hair Grass should be able to grow without additional CO2 injection.
If investing in a CO2 cylinder is too much for you, then use DIY CO2.

Yes, can do without CO2. But please do your research first, to see if it fits your needs/ideas. It's a rather tough plant.

Hi,
Look like it's a new bare tank. 2 x 36W lights is enough for your 2ft and hair grass should grow just fine without CO2 as the light is quite sufficient.
However, please take note to change your water often or control your lightings because new tanks with strong lights will easily built up algae and once they are trapped between your hair grass, it will spoilt the whole aquascaping. I tried it with my 1.5ft and 18W lights and resulted in lots of green thread algae and BBA.
As what Juggler said, if CO2 is an expensive investment, try starting with DIY CO2 first. It should last you up to 3 weeks if you are not particular about the bubble rate.
Cheers!
